Neuron supports different types of connections. This is vital to ensure that it works optimally with different types of devices.
To understand how these connections work, we need to know what gateways are. Basically, they are the software packages that create and manage the connections between Neuron App and the different connected devices.
There are different types of connections and each one requires a different configuration. Therefore, it's necessary to know what type of protocol we are going to use in our installation.
IO-Link protocol
When using an IO-Link protocol, you necessarily require a specific version of the Neuron Edge software to be created and installed to operate and an IO-Link Master as a gateway module to communicate sensors and the cloud.
MQTT protocol
These use the MQTT protocol to upload data as well as an Advantech WISE-EdgeLink type system to read the installation's data. This protocol makes data extremely lightweight so devices can upload data directly to the cloud, thanks to the WISE-EdgeLink runtime you install on your Advantech industrial CPU. Although, they do require multiple certificates to be downloaded to the installation’s industrial CPU and authenticated for operation.
If you have any questions about which protocol to use in your installation, read this article "Which protocol is best for my installation?" or contact our support team at neuron@plexo.cloud.
