To effectively navigate through the data ingested, you need to learn a combination of intuitive visualizations and a collection of interactive tools. In this article, we'll explore how to navigate the data presented in asset's line charts, aided by a dynamic time range selector and powerful drill options.
Accessing assets data
Accessing assets data can be done through two primary methods:
Dashboard widgets shortcuts: Dashboard widgets provide a convenient and quick way to access essential data insights at a glance. These widgets typically display key metrics or visualizations related to the asset's performance, allowing users to monitor important parameters efficiently.
Asset details data tab: Accessing data through the asset details data tab offers direct access from the complete list of assets available in the platform. This list could be considered as the central repository of assets and they don't need to be linked to any specific widget.
Line Chart
Line chart offers a visual representation of data trends over time. In the context of assets and sensors, they might depict parameters like temperature, pressure, or any other measurable quantity. Each point in the line represents a specific timestamp and its corresponding value.
You can hover every data point in the chart line to show a tooltip with the exact value and measurement unit as well as the exact timestamp of the data. If you click on the circle, youl will drill down to the next aggregation level with the content of the timeframe referenced by the point.
Timeframe Selector
At the core of efficient data navigation lies the ability to zoom in and out of specific time frames seamlessly. The calendar bar, equipped with predefined timeframes, empowers users to set the date range according to their requirements, spanning from seconds to years. This feature facilitates a granular analysis, enabling you to pinpoint anomalies or trends with precision. Whether you need to scrutinize minute fluctuations or observe long-term patterns, the dynamic time range selector caters to diverse analytical needs.
You can access the time range selector popup by clicking on the current datetime text or selecting the down arrow. In the popup window select the timeframe on the left column and then choose the corresponding value on the right-hand side. You can also navigate to the previous and next timeframe using the buttons with the left and right arrows repectively, moving backward and forward in time.
Drill Up and Drill Down
The drill up and drill down functionalities serve as indispensable tools for exploring data at different levels of granularity. The "drill down" button, symbolized by a plus icon, allows you to delve deeper into the data, transitioning from a higher aggregation level to a lower one. Conversely, the "drill-up" button, denoted by a minus icon, facilitates the reverse process, enabling you to ascend to a higher level of aggregation. These options empower users to seamlessly navigate through layers of data hierarchy, gaining insights at various levels of detail.
You can use drill up and drill down at any granularity levels. The maximum detail level is second and minimum detail level is year. When you reach the max or min levels the corresponding drill button is disabled.
If you navigate to a timeframe with no data at that aggregation level you will be presented with an empty state with quick access buttons to the data ingested today or drill up to the upper aggregation level.
Summary
Mastering navigating data presented in line charts, especially within the context of assets and sensors, requires a combination of analytical skills and interactive tools. By leveraging the dynamic time range selector, aggregation options, and drill functionalities, you can unravel valuable insights hidden within complex datasets.
Whether scrutinizing short-term fluctuations or analyzing long-term trends, these features empower users to extract meaningful conclusions, driving informed decision-making in diverse domains.
